Lasik Fees
LASIK prices differ widely. Be very wary of the ads that you see that quote Lasik prices from $XYZ. First of all, LASIK is nearly always priced per eye. Most people have two eyes, so this will double the price. LASIK surgeons also charge extra for the latest technologies, and any custom work they have to do. If you have more than average correction, or need more follow up, the price will rise. On average, Laser based treatments will set you back $2,100 PER eye.
There are large differences in price for the new custom technology that allows for precise corrections. The older technology uses microkeratomes blades and excimer lasers which are not customized by guided wavefront analysis.
Custom wavefront LASIK and IntraLase, a LASIK procedure in which a laser is used instead of a bladed instrument to create the flap on the front of the eye are more expensive. In LASIK, this thin flap is lifted so that laser energy can be applied to shape the eye, and then replaced to serve as a type of natural bandage.
In general non customized Lasik using a blade and unguided laser average around $1,670. IntraLase or custom wavefront guided LASIK will cost around $2,400 on average.
If you do see advertised LASIK rates that seem very low, buyer beware. Find out exactly what is included in the price.
